Ergo, tardi eramus.
Spero vos omnes habere aestatem optimam! Si habetis quaestiones, memorias, aut sententias de itinere nostro ad ecclesiam Latinam (aut de aliquo amplio) - quaeso, mittite nuntiam!
Valete bene!

Last week, Mr. Bailey drove six students to Ventura so we could go to a Latin Church (or Mass, which is Catholic church). On the way, Allison said something funny (or possibly stupid), so Mr. Bailey made fun of her, and then turned the wrong way!
Therefore, we were late. We blamed Allison, but it really wasn't her fault (and we still love her). But maybe being late was not as bad as we thought it was...
When we arrived, we walked through a gorgeous courtyard, with a fountain and flowers and roses and columns and statues... In the church, however, we could not hear the priest, and we knelt in silence for the longest time ever.
Not much Latin was said, and afterwards we learned that it had been "Low Mass," which doesn't have as much Latin as "High Mass." But after church everyone had food or milkshakes, and we were all better.
I think that particular church was not like other churches that have Latin Mass, and I want to go to another Latin church to see how it compares. Hopefully this summer I can go to the church where we almost went, which has "High Mass" and is close by. If it has a good Latin Mass, maybe we can plan a trip there (if you guys want).
I hope you are all having an awesome summer! If you have questions, memories, or thoughts about our trip to Latin Church (or anything else) - please, post a comment!
Be well!
Okay, that was an awesome day.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when Allison got us lost. ^_^
Okay, okay, it was Magister...but it was fun to watch Allison squirm as she tried to defend herself! ^_^
What else...??
I could never be Catholic.
Too much time on my knees, not knowing what was going on. Linnea and I kept whispering "What's he saying?!" to each other...
Oh, and Magister whistling a country song was...interesting...I think...I was shocked.
Hmmmm...(<--the sound of thinking)
And I kept freaking out over Magister's driving. The van sounded like it was break down. Especially when Magister floored it, and the engine didn't rev for, like, 30 seconds. O_o
Um, those are the first things that come to mind when I think of that day...
Sorry for not posting until...two days after the email. ^_^

P.S. I used my LJ, just FYI. I didn't know what else to do.
Magister's driving was insane.
ReplyDeleteHe gets a LITTLE too distracted by everything. Lol.
I'm really gonna have to work on my Latin. It was just a little hard to read the Latin by itself. ://
Great trip and great blog!
Hahaha oh yes! I'd forgotten how insanely Mr. Bailey drove... He kept getting distracted taking our french fries or whatever and we were all like "watch the road!!!"
ReplyDeleteKatia - Like I said, that was different than any mass I've been to, (besides the fact that it was in Latin). We go to mass a lot with my Grandma and I've never had to do that much kneeling or keeping silent or being confused or not being able to hear. But no pressure, no one's going to make you convert to Catholicism =]
Changstein - Don't get discouraged that you couldn't understand all the Latin! There was some stuff in there that we haven't covered in class - but by next year (or sooner, probably) you'll be able to read the whole thing, no problem! I'm glad that you tried to read the Latin (and didn't just skip to the English translation) =]
